The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) yesterday sent condolences to the friends, workmates and family of the late Gayanana Sukdeo, one of Guyana’s Regional umpires who passed away on Tuesday.
A release sent by the GCB yesterday highlighted the good nature of Sukdeo who was described as “always pleasant individual, who was ready to assist anyone in whatever way he can.
“His demise is a great loss to the members of the sub-associations across Guyana, the players and officials, we extend our condolences to his family, friends, umpires and the entire cricket fraternity,†the release added.
Sukdeo was part of the junior panel of umpires for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) since 2011 and did duties for the Under-15/17/19 tournaments. He was recently active as a standby umpire in the WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) 4-Day competition.

Sukhdeo, who in his playing days was an opening batsman for the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) first division team will be cremated on Sunday May 29 at the Good Hope Crematorium, East Coast of Demerara.

Umpire Sukhdeo laid to rest
Guyana Times article.
[size=small]Hundreds of people including cricket umpires, Guyana Cricket Board executives, relatives and friends bid farewell to umpire Guyanand Sukhdeo yesterday in dramatic style.[/size]
[size=small]Sukhdeo who passed away on Wednesday after suffering from renal failure was cremated yesterday at Good Hope crematorium, East Coast Demerara (ECD).[/size]
[size=small]Umpire Sukhdeo was a member of the West Indies Cricket Board “B†Panel of umpires and served on the executive of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council and the Demerara Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association.[/size]
[size=small]He officiated in several Regional age- group tournaments and served as fourth umpire in Regional First Class and Caribbean Premier League matches. Sukhdeo was also listed to officiate in the upcoming Regional Age-Group tournaments in 2016.[/size]
[size=small]Sukhdeo who played for the Gandhi Youth Organisation as an opening batman started his umpiring career in 2003. He went on the represent Demerara and was called to national senior trials. He served the Ministry of Education and the people of Guyana as a teacher of the Supply Primary School.[/size]
[size=small]First Class umpire Nandkumar Shivsankar spoke highly of Sukhdeo, stating that he was a dedicated umpire who was always willing to assist his younger colleagues. He added that the entire umpiring fraternity in the Caribbean regretted his passing and his services will surely be missed. The West Indies Cricket Umpires Association expressed condolences on his passing stating he was an asset.[/size]
[size=small]Umpire D. Somwaru and International cricket Commentator Inderjeet Persaud also paid tributes to the forty year old at the well-attended funeral service held at Chelsea Park in Mahaica, ECD.[/size]
[size=small]Umpire Suhkdeo, who had an accident when he was 10 years old that resulted in the removal of one of his kidneys perished to renal failure at the tender age for 40 years old. He leaves to mourn his wide and his two children.[/size]
