Compton consoles Sri Lankans, says even England’s batsmen would have found it difficult to face Anderson and Broad:
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

“We’ve got to build on the first Test. It was great to be part of that win – to win a Test in three days is fantastic,†said Compton, who was dismissed for a duck in England’s only innings, to Sky Sports. “It would have been nice to score some runs in the first Test but there’s been some quality preparation and that’s where my focus is, so when I get my chance I’m really on it.â€
Compton insisted complacency would not set in despite the crushing nature of the win. “I think we’re a team that feels confident but realise we’ve got another Test on our hands – and every Test is tough,†he pointed out.

He will need to get some runs on the board at Durham or his return to the side may well be a brief one. I suspect he will be given the entire series, but another failure at Durham could seal his fate. The trouble is, there is no ready made replacement for him at no 3.

I am not sure I agree with a dearth of suitable number 3s or those who could fit into the role.
Firstly Compton looks more at home opening, so if they want him in then opening it should be and my lad Halo at 3.
Personally I do not rate Compton as test material. Further I would be surprised if he does not score at Durham as the Lankan attack is good but not exceptional.
Alternatively I would have Jos back as the keeper and bat JB as a specialist batsman with Rooooot at 3.
The are options.

In an ideal world, Root would bat at 3. However, Root has gone on record in recent weeks about preferring to bat at 4. Given his success batting there, I'd be very reluctant to move him, especially if he is more comfortable batting at 4. Tom Westley was in the runs again for Essex this week, though I am not sold on him being the answer. The option of moving Vince up to 3 is there, but I'd rather he get his feet wet batting at 5, a position I think he is better suited.

With the gutted SL seam bowling attack due to injuries.
Now is the time to fiddle with batting order and debutants.
Plus that 1st game humiliation !

Not that this will come as a surprise to anyone, but a quick look at the weather forecast shows that conditions are likely to be similar to those at Headingley - overcast skies with sprinkling of rain mixed in.
