Two dropped catches from England in the space of 10-minutes. Players have been taken off the field for an early lunch due to rain. The forecast for the rest of the day looks rather grim. I hope those dropped catches don't come back to bite England.

Broad gets the big wicket of Mathews as he finds the outside edge. Great bowling from Broad and Anderson forcing him to play at every delivery and by allowing him to get is eye in.
Sri Lanka 93/4.

Shanaka will have nightmares of Jimmy. He gave him a right working over before nicking off. 9 wickets in the match for Jimmy, 9 catches for Bairstow.
Sri Lanka 101/6.

Nelson strikes. Sri Lanka 111/7. Finn gets his first wicket as Herath chips one to Stuart Broad. All too easy. The weather might be the only way this one makes it to tomorrow.

That didn't take long. 9 balls after tea and England are celebrating a mammoth innings and 88 runs victory. Jimmy finishes with a 10-wicket haul. England's seamers just too good for Sri Lanka. A thoroughly convincing win for England after a very tough start to the match. At 83/5, an England win looked a long way off, an innings victory looked like pie in the sky thinking. Full credit to Hales and Bairstow for digging in and getting England to a competitive total, and then Jimmy and Broad did the rest.

A failure to leave the ball decisively paved the road to an "embarrassing" and "humiliating" innings-defeat at Headingley, Sri Lanka captain
Angelo Mathews
said. Chasing England's 298 in the first innings, Sri Lanka collapsed to 91, then 119 following on. They batted for less than 73 overs in the match. Thirteen Sri Lanka dismissals were catches behind the wicket on the off side.
"We were not decisive in leaving the ball," Mathews said. "They bowled in good areas and we just kept putting our bats out of line of the stumps, and it kept nicking our bats all the time. We have to be decisive and play the correct one."
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

This was always going to be a tough series for Sri Lanka, especially with so many young and inexperienced batsman in their squad. Unfortunately for them, a tough examination was made even sterner thanks to the perfect swing and seam conditions. It was a real baptism of fire. With that said, sans Jonny Baristow, England didn't fare too much better with the bat.
