Since bludgeoning a 48-ball century in the West Indies' opening match of the World Twenty20 in March, Gayle has failed to get into double figures in one of his worst runs of form in a glittering career.

Self-styled “Universe Boss†Chris Gayle is having to confront his waning powers after a collapse in form, watching from the bench as Virat Kohli takes on his mantle as cricket's superstar batsman.

There's no doubt that Gayle as been a superstar for cricket but like all good sportsmen, eventually time catches up with them. I'm not saying that Gayles dip in form is the beginning of the end just yet, but I think its a stark reminder to everyone that nothing lasts forever, and especially in sport.

8 innings is the very definition of a small sample size, even more so in T20 cricket where there are so many variables. This is in no way indicative or predictive that this is the beginning of the end for Gayle.
Gayle's overall numbers over the last 6 months aren't terrible: an average of 25.25 in 28 innings (with 1 century and 2 fifties), though admittedly below his career averages.
More importantly, Gayle has always been a streaky batsman, and a very tentative/slow starter. He struggles to get going in T20 cricket, so much so that he has been dismissed in single figures in 42.5 percent of his innings.
As Gayle himself said during commentary yesterday, even the World Boss is allowed to slump. He then went out and blasted KKR all around Eden Gardens for a rapid fire 49.
