Ravi Rampaul has stated constantly being overlooked for a catalog of reasons by a succession of selectors in the Caribbean across the various formats is why he decided to become a Kolpak player with Surrey.
Rampaul's most recent appearance for the West Indies was in limited overs colours during last September's Sri Lanka tour. But on return from that series, he never played for Trinidad domestically and thus missed out on being present in the victorious ICC World T20 2016 winning squad that he usually is part of.
He has started the English county season with a bang clinching two five-wicket hauls and spoke to Cricbuzz about his career decision which will makes him ineligible for West Indies selection.

"At that time (August 2015), I was very interested in playing Test cricket.
However, after West Indies
aborted the tour in India in 2014,
my retainer contract was taken away and I was left out of the 30-man squad
for the 50-over World Cup", Rampaul explained.
