Ottley, Goolie bowl Clarke Road to victory
Monday, April 25 2016
Yannick Ottley’s haul of 4/40, backed by Jyd Goolie’s capture of 2/69, played integral roles in affirming a 19-run victory for Clarke Road United as they wrecked a promising PowerGen batting line-up when action continued in the three-day National Premier League yesterday.
Having snatched first innings points by posting 290 and then dismissing PowerGen for 150 on the opening day last weekend, Clarke Road returned to the pitch on Saturday and tallied a score of 166, holding on to a lead of 306 runs. In response, PowerGen resumed proceedings yesterday at 24/2 but were undone by bowling spells from Cariah and Goolie, as they were dismissed for 287, falling 19 runs short of their intended target.
Half-centuries from Ewart Nicholson (55) and Jason Mohammed (51) had set a good foundation for PowerGen, and supporting knocks from Jeron Maniram (45), Gregory Mahabir (42) and Ansil Bhagan (32) gave the Penal-based team a glimpse of victory.
In other matches, Alescon Comets closed the second day of their meeting with Victoria Village 128 runs short of victory.
After dismissing Victoria for 189 on Saturday, Comets concluded the opening day of play at 85/7 in response. They took to the pitch yesterday but were only able to add 40 more runs to their score, finishing all out for 125, with Victoria holding on to a lead of 64 runs.
Victoria, in their second innings posted a meagre 166 all out, setting a total of 230 for a Comets win. At stumps yesterday, Comets were well on course, batting at 102/3 with one day still to play.
