To play in CPL: Shimron Hetmyer
Indies at Twenty20?
Just over a week after Darren Sammy’s men claimed their second World T20 title in three tournaments, one writer has broached the question. The ever thoughtful ESPNcricinfo writer Daniel Brettig had this to say in a recent offering: “The brilliance of a West Indies team that has effectively cut ties with Test cricket will leave plenty wondering how it will be possible to beat them in future without changing schedules to allow others to play as much T20 as Bravo, Gayle and Andre Russell have.â€
Brettig’s piece was not about how to stop the Windies per se, but as the above quote suggests, he muses whether the success of the Caribbean players had something to do with the amount of T20 cricket they have played, unfettered as many of them are, by commitments to Test cricket.
Further, he wonders whether the Test game can make a comeback in the West Indies in the face of the T20 revolution.

I think this is a mute point. The bigger nations tend to have T20 specialists that only play T20's with a few class players that compete in all three formats. This would mean that most of these players are participating in only T20's. There might be a point made that the test playing players are more prone to injury as their bodies endure longer spells of physical exercise but then again you come back to specialised test and T20 players.
