CRICKET Council (ICC) number one ranked Twenty20 bowler, Samuel Badree, personally dedicated the historic men’s West Indies World T20 victory to the ‘older generation’ of cricketers who bravely set the foundation for success over the past two decades of global representation.
Badree respectfully paid these tribute remarks at last night’s celebratory cocktail reception for both the male and female returning T20 victors in his comprehensive address at the Hyatt Regency, Portof- Spain.
“For me personally, and I can’t speak for anybody else, I would like to dedicate this victory for the older generation,†said the ace leg-spinner. “For the people who would have seen the West Indies during their time of dominance and gone through the tumultuous last two decades of consistent failures.
At least there is something that you guys can be happy about once more and smile about. Be rest assured that there is growth in West Indies cricket and there is something positive that West Indies cricket can give to you once more.†Badree’s remarks were well received by the attentive audience as they erupted in applause at such an honourable mention to those who witnessed the regional team in their hey day.
Also expressing her gratitude was female winner, Britney Cooper, who again pleaded for continuous support for women in cricket.
She credited the coaches and all administrative staff who made immense contributions towards their ultimate success.
Also being celebrated last night were wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin, tournament debutant Evin Lewis, physiotherapist Ronald Rogers, world leading T20 wicket-taker Anisa Mohammed, former regional skipper Merissa Aguilleira, Stacy-Ann King, Ann Brown John (women’s manager), Donald La Guerre (mental conditioning coach) and Oba Gulston (physiotherapist).
Also in attendance were Minister of Sport Darryl Smith, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Board Jocelyn Francois Opadeyi, chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation Terry Rondon among several executive members of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago along with family members of the celebrated cricketers.

Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
