It's hard to believe it has been 46 years to the day that Barry Richards last played Test cricket. Richards was one of the top 3 batsman I have ever seen play. Just an incredible talent that made batting look so frustratingly easy. To this day, I have yet to see a batsman's cover drive on par with Barry's.
The South African team that completed a whitewash against Australia in 1970 was absolutely jam packed with some of the games greatest players - Richards, Graeme and Peter Pollock, Mike Procter, Eddie Barlow and Denis Lindsay.
1970/71 was a golden period for Richards. He averaged 72.57 in his four Test matches, 109.86 for South Australia and 47.26 for Hampshire.

Richards was a legend. His batting average speaks volume. But whitewashing Australians shouldn't be a considered a major feat though. They were nothing like modern times Australia. Though South Africa was a young team the, so I guess it can considered a major feat anyway. It's sad that he had to go out with a retired hurt in his last innings. Still, he is to be remembered as a legend.

When County cricket was quite tough, he shone for Hants.
A very, very good watch indeed.
