KINGSTON, Jamaica - The now West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will be renamed Cricket West Indies shortly.

The official announcement of the name change was made by WICB President, Dave Cameron at the just concluded annual general meeting and the board of directors quarterly meeting, held in Kingston this past Friday and Saturday.

While that name change will be happening, independent director, Don Wehby will be leading a team of other independents to include Clifford Reis, Ricky Skerritt and three others to be named, to assess the undone recommendations from the Lucky, Patterson and Wilkin reports. These reports have over time made suggestions regarding changes to the WICB and its governance and management structures.

"The terms of reference of this team, will focus primarily on the recommendations that have not been implemented and for the team to examine if there is an opportunity to bring anything back to the Territorial Boards and the WICB for adoption by the shareholders,” cameron stated in a press release.

Cameron added: “Once that process is complete, a change management expert will be brought in to complete the process for a smooth transition.”

Cameron also reported to the shareholders that the WICB had a surplus of US$3.4 million as at September 30, 2015.

President Cameron said he was confident in revealing that the projections for the next four years indicate that the Board will be able to cover costs for its domestic competitions and cricket programmes.

The Full Member Boards of the WICB have disagreed with CARICOM’s call for the dissolution of the Board.

I don't know if whether this name change is necessary if it brings any value to the process. I am in agreement, however, with the involvement of a committee of independent persons which seeks to iron out the problems affecting the management of West Indies cricket. I stand resolute that Caricom Leaders should not have direct involvement in the affairs of West Indies Cricket. This role should be assigned to the capable technocrats.

It's good to see West Indies cricket administration undergoing some massive changes. The problems with West Indies cricket have been more due to the apathy of the administrators than lack of talent. It will be interesting to see whether just the name has changed or the entire structure has been overhauled.

Its good to see the structural reformations. Its true they are at their worst now with so many ongoing issues and need a massive change in the grassroot level, a whole new administration that does the players justice. Ultimately, players are the main starts. I am sure West Indies can return to their glory days

In 2007, prepared by a committee headed by the former Jamaica prime minister PJ Patterson.

Like other key points, it has remained dormant in the nine years since,

while in the interim, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have made the switch.

The more things change .... the more they remain the same !!! ..... and that should be pretty obvious with WICB !!

Is changing the name though, not just a way of maybe sweeping the more serious issues they've got under the carpet? With the way some of the members have behaved recently, I can see them trying to say that they've got a new name now, so the past issues shouldn't be mentioned again, and left in the past.

If they aren't adressed though, the problems will still be there no matter what name they choose to call themselves.
