East, South reach Under-15 cricket final

A DEVASTATING spell of spin bowling by Kyle Roopchand propelled South to a convincing 173-run victory yesterday over North-East to earn a place in the final of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Under- 15 Inter Zone tournament.
Roopchand took four wickets for three runs in just four overs, which included two maidens to reduce North-East to 110 all out in 28 overs, after being set 290 to win by South.
Roopchand teamed up with Darren Samlal (three for 33) to register fine individual allround performances, after earlier scoring 58 and 76 respectively in the mammoth South total of 289 for three wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
The southerners, who won the toss and elected to bat first at Gilbert Park in California, will now face defending champions East in the Inter Zone Under-15 final carded for March 11.
Also yesterday, East steamrolled South-East in the other semi-final at the National Cricket Centre at Balmain in Couva, winning by a margin of 109 runs.
Taking first strike, East made 205 all out in 41.4 overs with Rivaldo Ramlogan the star of the show top-scoring with 57 and coming back with the ball to grab four wickets for 31 runs to reduce South- East to 96 all out in 39.2 overs.
East also got valuable scores from Leonardo Julien who made 38 while Samir Ali contributed 32. Best of the South-East bowlers was Brandon Dookiesingh who claimed five wickets for 38 runs.
