Tableland United created an upset yesterday as they defeated Comets by just 10 runs with a day to spare in their TTCB Premiership cricket clash in Tableland.
Set 186 runs to win, the boys from Charlieville found national player Daniel St Clair too hot to handle and fell for 175. St Clair finished with figures of 5/35. Earlier, Tableland resuming their second innings on 91/3, rallied to 213 with Akiel Cooper hitting an even 100.
At Syne Village Isiah Rajah, the son of former national cricketer Aneal Rajah kept the home team PowerGen at bay with an unbeaten 95 for Merryboys.
The Patna Boys responding to PowerGen’s huge score of 370 for seven declared made just 156 in their first innings, as Kavesh Kantasingh proved a handful. Batting a second time facing a deficit of 204 runs, Merryboys batsmen put their heads down and battled to 209 for four at the end of the day’s play.
Rajah was in fine fettle, as the innings was built around him. When play resumes this morning Merryboys will start at effectively just five runs to the good with six wickets standing.
