Hope. That is what the West Indies Under-19s have given the Caribbean with their five-wicket win over India to clinch their first ICC Under-19 World Cup title in Bangladesh on Sunday.
Former West Indies player Tony Gray said the victory will give the next generation of West Indies players encouragement while Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath and West Indies Players Association president Wavell Hinds said this latest success will give fans hope that the regional team can reclaim its place at the top of world cricket.
Speaking to the Express, Gray said: “I think it was a brilliant win. I think when you have young players that struggled in early part of the tournament and then come good playing against teams like India, who have over a billion people, for these youngsters to go out there and do so well and win the tournament, it shows that we have the talent but it is what we do from here on with that talent.
