The centrally retained West Indies cricketers will miss the 2016 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament due to the fact that they will be involved in the Test series between the West Indies and India, which will clash with the CPL.
At the draft yesterday, the Barbados Tridents choose wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin was said that he cannot be chosen because he is centrally retained by the WICB and should make himself available for the Indian Test series.
The Patriots also made a bid for Shannon Gabriel and was told the same story. The Indians are due in the West Indies from July to August for four Test matches and this is the same time period in which the CPL will be played.
Trinbago Knight Riders coach Simon Helmot, speaking on the issue, told Guardian Media: “There is nothing we can do about the situation. We will miss Darren Bravo who played so well for us the last time around but it is just one of those things.
“It means that someone else will have to step up and fill the void that is left by him. We will surely miss him, Samuel Badree and Jason Mohammed who have been with us previously.â€
Badree was drafted by the St Kitts/Nevis Patriots at a price of US$110,000, while Mohammed has gone to the Guyana Amazon Warriors for US$40,000.
CPL announced that all centrally contracted West Indies players can be chosen as replacements for other players but not as frontline selections.
Some of the big names missing are Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor, Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder and Jermaine Blackwood.
