West Indies /T&T spinner Sunil Narine returns with new bowling action.
Mystery spinner Sunil Narine grabbed two wickets during his 10-over spell and looked quite good in his comeback match for Queen’s Park against Clarke Road at Wilson Road in Penal, yesterday.
Queen’s Park batting first in the season opener posted 260 all out off 49.2 overs. Leading the way were Marlon Barclay, who stroked an entertaining 91, with six fours and four sixes. Also among the runs was opener Jeremy Solozano, who vied for a share of the spotlight with 80 that included seven fours. Bowling for Clarke Road Mark Deyal snared 4/37 with his off-spinners.
Clarke Road in reply put up a strong challenge early but was bowled out for 228 off 46.1 overs. Deyal again was the star of the show for the Southerners scoring 83 with nine fours and three sixes. Medium pacer Kevon Cooper ensured the victory for the Parkites with figures of 4/41, while Narine provided solid but cautious support to claimed 2/37.
Parkites coach David Furlonge said Narine looked good in his comeback game with his remodeled action. “Sunil looked good today in his comeback game. Everyone who saw him was happy with his outlook. National coaches Gus Logie and Kelvin Williams were both here looking at him and they were pleased. They were very happy with the fact that during his last few overs he got back his pace on the deliveries, so all in all it was a good day for him.â€
In other matches, defending champions Merryboys went under to Comets by five wickets at Pierre Road in Charlieville. Batting first, Merryboys made 179/9 as they found run scoring difficult on the track. Comets lost five early wickets in their chase but an unbeaten 71 from national wicketkeeper Steven Katwaroo and 43 not out from Barbadian Kenroy Williams brought the Central team back into the contest and to eventual victory.
Red Force captain Jason Mohammed found form in scoring a century to lead PowerGen to an 84-run win over Tableland in their encounter at Syne Village in Penal.
PowerGen rattled up 312/5 off 50 overs with Mohammed getting 101 off 95 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. Gregory Mahabir stroked an unbeaten 71 off 85 balls with seven fours and one six. Tableland in reply made only 128 with spinner Jovan Ali claiming 4/32.
The other battle between newcomers Victoria and Prisons ended in an easy four-wicket win for the former.
Action continues today at 9.30am with Queen’s Park vs Prisons at the Oval, Victoria vs PowerGen at Victoria, Jenexcon Tableland vs Merryboys in Tableland and FCB Clarke Road vs Alescon Comets at Wilson Road.
