The Mets and Yankees have both had looks at the famous cricket star who’s trying to become a baseball player. But it remains to be seen whether Kieran Powell can make the transition to the diamond in any meaningful way.
Powell, a former West Indies cricketer, had a workout in front of a dozen or so teams Wednesday at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The Yankees were one of the teams with a scout there, according to a baseball source.

Powell fails to impress Advertisement Former West Indies opener and Major League Baseball aspirant Kieran Powell attracted plenty of attention in the US on Wednesday when he was put through a "workout" in front of scouts in Florida. Powell, 25, was the subject of plenty of media attention but according to Wallace Matthews, who reported on the workout for ESPN.com, a landmark switch from international cricket to the MLB is far from a formality. He reported that a scout from the New York Yankees came away unimpressed and said a rep from another team had told him of Powell: "He sucks. He's not worth any time."
