Fifteen-year-old Pranav Dhanawade scored 1009 not out in the HT Bhandari Cup inter-school tournament in Mumbai to set a new world record in school cricket. The previous record of 628 was set by Arthur Collins in 1899.
Dhanawade smashed 59 sixes and 127 fours in 395 minutes at the crease before his KC Gandhi School declared at 1,465 against Arya Gurukul School. Looking at the scorecard and margin of victory it was pretty clear this was a horrible mis-match of abilities.
As an aside, maybe its the bowler in me, but I was more impressed with the young lad Kamath taking 8 for 16 in the second innings. Spare a thought for Tejas Misar and his figures of 0/142 from six overs.

This might sound a bit harsh, and scoring over 1000 runs is a major achievement BUT...what was the actual point of that player carrying on to that amount? Surely after the other teams 1st innings score, they could have declared at what? 500 probably.
What makes it even worse was the 2nd innings of the opposing team. It's a great record to have, but a pointless one.

Check out the bowling figures aswell though...20 overs went for 283 runs! I'd be scarred for life if I was that bowler!
And also was the wicket prepared by the same groundsman that did the one in the SA vs Eng game that's just finished?

My thoughts as well.
500 runs seems monumental and a 1,000 is incomprehensible!
I suppose he was scoring so rapidly, it just happened with a SR of almost 300!

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the pitch in Cape Town, and neither did Mikey Holding, who chastized those calling that pitch a road during his stint in the commentary box. In his own words, Mikey suggested that it was foolish to call a pitch that induced 10 dropped catches flat and lifeless.
Sure, the pitch didn't break up quite as expected, but the ball was still carrying through at chest height on day 5 and offered plenty of pace. Lets not forget that England were 223/5 in their first innings and then limped to 159/6 in their second. South Africa's own first innings score would have been much different had England grabbed hold of even half of those dropped catches. Sometimes big scores are not always indicative of a flat pitch, but either good batting, poor fielding, indifferent bowling or some combination of the three.

To be honest I'd like to know if they was bowling underarm on a tiny pitch with the amount of sixes he got!
Seriously though, not to take anything away from the achievement, I do think it's gone along the lines of being a bit ridiculous. Breaking a record is some achievement, breaking it and doubling it makes a bit of a mockery of that achievement in the first place.
