ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board confirmed today that Shannon Gabriel and Jomel Warrican have been penalised under the Code of Conduct following the second round of the Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament which ended on Monday.
Gabriel and Warrican were reported by umpires Gregory Brathwaite, Verdayne Smith and Troy Tudor during the match between Barbados Pride and Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at Kensington Oval for Level 1 breaches of the Code for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.
When an appeal for an lbw verdict was unsuccessful on the third ball of the 95th over of the Barbados first innings, Gabriel shouted an obscenity, after throwing his hands wide open, which was considered a show of dissent to the umpire’s decision.
It was reported by the umpires as a Level 1 breach of the Code, but the charge was upgraded to Level 2, due to it being a repetition of the same offence which Gabriel had committed within the last 12 months. The Red Force fast bowler was fined 70 per cent of his match fee.
Warrican was fined 10 per cent of his match fee, after he too, admitted to his offence and accepted the imposition of the proposed sanction.
The Pride left-arm spinner was penalised, after he stood at the crease, opened his arms and delayed leaving the wicket in a show of dissent at the umpire’s decision, when he was given out lbw on the final delivery of the 111th over.
