After the T&T Red Force bowlers fought back, the top order failed to deliver as Barbados Pride holds the advantage heading into day three today in round two of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Four-Day tournament at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Resuming on a strong 247/4, Barbados could only managed an additional 53 runs before being dismissed for 300 in the first innings. In reply, T&T closed on 153/5 still trailing the Barbadians by 147 runs.
It could have been a lot worse for T&T, as it was reduced to 99/5 after the top order which showed so much promise in the first round, failed to impress. Already back in the pavilion are Evin Lewis (24), Kjorn Ottley (18), Kyle Hope (45), Narsingh Deonarine (5) and Yannic Cariah (5). The trio of Lewis, Deonarine and Cariah all cracked half centuries against Leeward Islands in the first round at Warner Park in St Kitts. Barbadian Hope, who was selected by T&T in the draft, was the only Red Force batsman to offer resistance. Hope’s knock came off 106 balls and included six fours.
T&T’s first innings total may depend on wicketkeeper Steven Katwaroo, who is unbeaten on 27. Katwaroo top scored for T&T against Leeward Islands with 71. At the crease with Katwaroo is another right-hander in Yannick Ottley, who is 26 not out. Kevin Stoute grabbed two wickets for the home team, while Jomel Warrican (1/30), Miguel Cummins (1/38) and Kemar Roach (1/29) all snatched one wicket apiece.
Earlier, leg spin bowler Imran Khan and West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel took two wickets each to reduce the Barbadians first innings total. Khan finished with 4/75, while Gabriel took 3/49. Khan, T&T’s best bowler last year, already has ten wickets for the season after taking six wickets against the Leeward Islands.
Shamarh Brooks was dismissed for 111, only adding nine runs to his overnight score. Shane Dowrich was the top batsman for Barbados on day two, after getting out two runs shy of a half century. Roston Chase made 59 earlier in the innings. The match continues today from 10 am.
