Former WIPA CEO and president Dinanath Ramnarine said the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) had no choice but to re-instate suspended head coach Phil Simmons as he made a call for Caricom Governments to act within their territories and take immediate action against regional boards.
On Tuesday, the WICB announced Simmons’ return and announced the intention to probe the allegations Simmons made, referring to outside interference on the team selection for the on-going Sri Lanka tour.
But Ramnarine believes the WICB had no other alternative. “The WICB had no choice as the process was flawed from the start. Didn’t (WICB CEO) Michael Muirhead speak about an investigation soon after Simmons’ suspension. What is the outcome of the investigation. The public needs to know,†he said.
Ramnarine said that Simmons had already apologised in the days after his outburst about the voting process in the selection committee but “never apologised for the part where he claimed interference in the selection process.â€
