The behind the scenes sitaution involving Compton has been quite well documented, as has his temperament/intensity, which tended to rub some players and management the wrong way. Michael Atherton touched upon this during commnetary in the Cape Town Test.
I agree with Mail. England have enough attacking players in the team to carry the more defensive minded players such as Cook and Compton. Those two add some steel and can lay a foundation for the attacking players such as Hales, Root, Stokes, Taylor and Bairstow to build upon.
The only concerns are that Compton either tries to change his game or is forced to. It was noticeable how in the first innings he looked as though he was told to try and score at a quicker rate but looked uncomfortable doing so.

The selectors either have to accept him for the player he is, traits which has got him to this point, or dispense with him if they are unable to!
I think he should be opening as I am happy to have very solid starts givinga platform for the otehr more attacking lads.
When we went to number 1 in the test rankings, albeit briefly, we were often not many for one and Cook and Trott plugged away and we continued winning or doing well.
In another thread Dilly you mentioned about conservatism and this is where it is required, at the commencement of test innings.
I am however happy to see Halo occupy the opening position for the entire Summer, unless he looks woefully out of sorts.
We have a very good lineup just now and I am looking forward to the Summer.

The thing is though with England, it's not as if there's an abundance of top quality talent coming through the ranks, apart from the odd players.
Compton is a good, talented player that deserves his chance I would have thought so maybe his temperament or intensity can be worked on without him being told he's being dropped or he only plays if you play this certain way.
