The Daily Mail published an interesting article this morning revealing that Moeen Ali's understanding of Urdu enabled him to translate Pakistan's plans for Alastair Cook during the first Test.
Moeen's versatility in all facets of the game is extremely valuable to England - as opening batsman, frontline spinner and now translator. His development over the last 18 months has been fascinating to watch.

In what sense? His batting or bowling? He just became the fastest English spinner to 50 Test wickets. Moeen's bowling strike rate is better than the likes of Swann, Herath, Lyon, Shakib, Mishra, Harbhajan, Babar, Narine and Tahir. To put his success into some historical context, Moeen has the lowest strike rate of any English spinner post World War 2.
He is not an opening batsman. Never has been. Never will. He is, however, an excellent all-rounder. His bowling has come on leaps and bounds over the last two years and he is a very pivotal player in all three formats of the game.
