Virender Sehwag has announced this morning that he will retire from all forms of international cricket and the IPL. My favourite Virender Sehwag stat - he has the highest strike rate (82.23) of any Test cricketer to have scored a minimum of 5,000 runs.

A very explosive opener in his day who was great in all formats of the game like Chris Gayle was for the West Indies. Sehwag's international career ended about 2 years ago so this retirement now is only him admitting that.

Interestingly, Sehwag had a rather poor T20I record and failed to live up to expectations in that format of the game. His strike rate (as would be expected from a player of his magnitude) was fantastic but his average was very, very pedestrian, and that is being kind.
With regards to Test cricket, he is, in my opinion, without doubt the second greatest Indian opener of all time, second only to Gavaskar.
