The rigours of the modern day game put so much stress on a pace bowler’s body, especially those that have not yet fully matured, that injury is almost inevitable.

I have never considered genuine fast bowling as a real back-breaker (rather) its got all to do with the perfect and seamless alignment of an incisive runup, languid approach to the crease, the high-elbow action, optimal wrist presentation and a nice front-on release towards the batsman's stumps at maximum velocity.

I like my fast bowlers to be more of "in the face" and "aggressive"-who just bowl fast for tle love of cricket and competition.

Too much time in the gym certainly can be a bad thing for quick bowlers.
Not sure what could/would be considered a good or smooth action for a quick bowler. Take Shane Bond for example who to the untrained eye seemed to have a wonderfully smooth action but he was about as injury prone a bower you could find during his career. I do remember reading something about how it doesn't necessarily matter if a bowler has a front on or side on action as long as the knees and back line up

Well the fact that fast bowler involves a lot of back bending then I thing injuries of that nature will be inevitable. Also the fact that the bowlers may not be in top shape physically is also another factor.

Why is a fast bowler's work so back-breaking?
