Former West Indies paceman Fidel Edwards has signed a new one-year contract at Hampshire.
The 33-year-old has played an integral role in Hampshire's battle for survival in the LV= County Championship this season, taking 45 wickets at an average of 20.88 in eight Division One matches.
Ten of those scalps came in the current must-win clash against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, where Hampshire are on course to secure the win that could save them from the drop depending on Sussex's result at Headingley.
Hampshire director of cricket Giles White said: “He’s been fantastic for us this year – he’s bowled with a lot of pace and know-how in varying conditions and we’re delighted to have him with us again.
“Fidel has always expressed his enjoyment at playing for Hampshire and he was thankful that we showed faith in him to start with – he adds a different dimension to our bowling attack and this will give the changing room a huge boost going into next season.â€
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Fidel Edwards has earned his money and then some this season for Hampshire. He was absolutely terrific. He steamed in, bowled his heart out and somehow miraculously kept Hampshire from being relegated. His spell against Notts yesterday was as good as it gets. He picked up 3 wickets in 7 balls and had the Nottinghamshire batsman cowering in fear on a flat wicket.

Fidel powers Hampshire to the Great Escape. At the end of Day 2, there was absolutely no chance that Hampshire were to stay up and then Fidel put the entire team on his back and bowled arguably the spell of his career to turn the tables.

Fidel talking after the win:

He has become quite a cult hero for Hampshire in his short time here. He clearly enjoys playing for the team and with all the lads. What impressed me most about him was his passion and effort all season long. He could have come over here, picked up his pay check and gone on back home, but he has bowled his heart out and given his all.

Well done to Fidel and I hope he does even better next season. One of the few WI players that I genuinely like.

I wonder if Hampshire offered him enough money to play the entire season for them as opposed to a half season due to the CPL?

All 10 of Fidel's wickets from the final match against Notts can be seen in the two videos below. The three wickets in seven balls in Notts' second innings was Fidel at his very best. Far too much pace and fire for the Nottinghamshire batsmen.
