I don't know if it's worth it trying to flog a dead horse by keeping a West Indies team together. Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana have far less in common than they had forty or fifty years ago. University of the West Indies is the only other organization they have. Caribbean athletes other than cricketers certainly would not want to compete for West Indies rather than their own countries. Usain Bolt wouldn't I'm sure. It's time to make six associate nations out of the wreckage of this one full member. West Indies were a legend in their time. But they are like an old boxer who doesn't know when to retire.

West Indies teams these days are pedestrian and lacklustre, short on skill, energy and passion. Brian Lara – just perhaps Chris Gayle if one has to stretch the time frame – were the last in the tradition of great players from the Caribbean.
