The long waited town hall meeting scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago and organised by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will be staged on September 25 from 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation.
This was confirmed yesterday by Azim Bassarath, President of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) who said he was extremely pleased that the inter-active session with WICB president and vice president Wycliffe “Dave†Cameron and Emmanuel Nanthan will finally take place.
The TTCB and the WICB had traded words on the venue proposed by the WICB for the local town hall meeting and the decision to stage the session in Chaguanas represented a significant triumph for the local cricket organisation.
General Secretary of the TTCB Arjoon Ramlal had written to Cameron suggesting that holding the meeting between the top WICB officials and the major local stake-holders at a venue in north Trinidad would pose serious logistical problems with accessibility for interested parties in other parts of the country, and availability of parking accommodation being the primary concerns.
Ramlal had also stressed that the main objective of the consultation is to attract participation from the widest cross-section of the multi-racially blessed, ethnically mixed, culturally rich and socially diverse population and that hosting the momentous event in Port-of-Spain will not achieve the polycentric objective.
Yesterday, Bassarath said he is looking forward to an interesting and informative session on September 25 in Chaguanas and that everything will be put in place by the local organisation to make the initiative successful.
Antigua, headquarters of WICB, hosted the latest town hall meeting yesterday.
The WICB has so far met with stake-holders in Barbados, Dominica, St Lucia, Guyana and Jamaica.

The news that on September 25, this team will be in the country, appears only an afterthought after incessant pressure was brought on the WICB. Alas, it will be a non event, as most are already disillusioned.

I don't see what all this town-hall meeting is for! I hope this is not another money wasting venture by the West Indies cricket board...
