The green jacket worn by Don Bradman during his first Test series as Australian captain, against England in 1936-37, has sold at auction in Melbourne for a hammer price of AU$100,000, well above the AU$70,000 estimate.
When the buyer’s premium and GST is added, the anonymous collector paid AU$132,000.
Bidding opened at AU$50,000. There were two active bidders, one by phone, but was eventually sold to the bidder in the room.
During that five-match series, Bradman averaged 90.00 and scored two double centuries, including 270 at Melbourne in the third Test.
