Bridgetown, Barbados - Joel Garner has been re-elected as president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) for a fifth consecutive two-year term.
At this evening's 13th Special Meeting at Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Garner, a former Barbados captain and West Indies fast bowling great, defeated Conde Riley 127 to 101 votes. There were two spoilt votes.
Riley also lost to Garner two years ago (166-121).
Deighton Smith was retained as First vice-president as well, beating Calvin Hope 121-109. There were five spoilt votes.
Maurice Gaskin is the new Second vice-president. He was elected unopposed. That position had been held by Wendell Kellman.
Gaskin served as Third vice-president in the last term.
Erskine King then won the battle among four contenders for the post of Third vice-president.
King, a former Barbados wicket-keeper/batsman and ex-Director of Sports at the National Sports Council, gained 77 votes. The others in contention were Calvin Hope (75), Patricia Greenidge (29) and Keith Simmons (21). There were six spoilt votes.
Jason King remains Treasurer after he was unchallenged.
Anthea Ishmael is still Secretary, defeating Jeff Broomes 104 to 91, with three spoilt votes.
There were four unopposed nominations for positions as Board members - former Barbados and England batsman Roland Butcher, Ignatius Marshall, Hartley Reid and Kamal Springer.
Intrigue surrounded the two persons to serve as Directors on the West Indies Cricket Board.
In a battle between Garner, Smith and Riley, Garner got 116 votes, while Smith and Riley tied with 77. There was one spoilt vote.
A second vote resulted in Riley edging out Smith 71 to 70.
Smith and Butcher will be the representatives to WICB meetings. In a four-man contest, Smith earned 70 votes, Butcher 59, Kamal Springer 47 and Timothy Boyce 42. There was one spoilt vote.
