A career-best 3 for 31 from Doug Bracewell cancelled out the same achievement from Farhaan Behardien, who scored 70 and tried to hold South Africa together on a slow, sticky pitch. New Zealand's attack adapted perfectly to the conditions, taking pace off the ball and finding some reverse swing to pull off a mid- and late-innings squeeze.
After dismissing the openers early, New Zealand kept South Africa to just 67 runs in the period between overs 16 and 33, and plucked most of their middle order. Behardien resisted but when he tried to accelerate later on, he only prompted another collapse. South Africa lost four wickets for 16 runs in the last five overs and barely limped over 200.
