His arms swaying rhythmically by his side, holding a brand new hard white leather ball, he is running like a panther, his long locks flying past his ears. Sporting a blue jersey, he flies past the umpire, takes a giant leap and lands on the popping crease. With a demonic swing of arm, he releases the ball at supersonic speed that curves inwards as it lands close to the toes of the batsman. The already scared batsman tries in vain to block but he is a little late and out goes his stumps, uprooted and cart-wheeling 10 feet behind towards the wicketkeeper!!!

Ishant Sharma has been clocked at 94mph. As we all know, just because one can bowl with great pace, doesn't make one a great bowler. Kapil Dev bowled at around 85mph and he finished with 434 Test wickets.
Which makes for an interesting question. Whose career would you rather have? Kapil Dev, who finished with 434 wickets and is third all-time in wickets by a pace bowler, or Shoaib Akhtar, who finished with 178 wickets at a strike rate of 45.7, 4th best by a pace bowler with 150+ wickets (Kapil Dev is 53rd on that list).

well no yuh know.
the secret about Lillee, Kapil, Imran, Vass, McGrath, the west indians is extreme pace in most cases. combined with skill/brains, great fitness, constant focus.
dem guys cud work and worked all the time..as Roberts said. deh were smart and fit and nimble enuff to exploit all weakness detected in batsmen's skill set
