Anderson was bowling to Mitch Johnson. Wanting to show up Johnson, Anderson put some extra pace and energy into his delivery. But he leaned too far to his left when releasing the ball - an odd, awkward looking angle - causing some muscle by his rib cage to twist and stretch.

He bowled a second ball after initially grabbing at his side too, that can't have helped matters. Mikey Holding on commentary said as much.
Needless to say, no Anderson would be a monumental blow for England. Trent Bridge has always been one of his favourite grounds to ball on, too; 53 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 19.24 including career best figures of 7/43 against New Zealand in 2008.

It was just reported this morning that he has definitely been ruled out of the 4th Test at Trent Bridge. Not good. Whether you support England or not, you always want to see the best players on the field.
