superstar opener Chris Gayle
Jamaica Tallawahs skipper Chris Gayle has confirmed that he will be out of cricket until December as he undergoes surgery to address a chronic back injury.
Speaking after the Tallawahs' loss to the Red Steel on Thursday night, Gayle revealed “After this I am going to do a surgery on my back so I will be out of cricket for a couple of months now so I get a bit of break from cricket...Will be December before I get back into competitive cricket again.â€
Gayle is currently the leading scorer in the tournament with 430 runs. He also has the highest score this season with 105 against the Red Steel and also leads the Hero Maximum Race with most 33 sixes.
“It is disappointing to lose in the playoff,†said Gayle, who is now supporting the Red Steel and his friend Dwayne Bravo to go all the way.
“I just want to thank them for their support throughout the tournament. It is sad that we had to bow out like this but these things do happen. It has been a fantastic journey but out batting has been letting us down but such is life. We have to regroup next year and come back stronger.
“For me, I try to be positive all the time. But it is not a one-man game and we tried to stress that all the time. The middle order had to step up and it did not happen again today and we finished fourth,†he added.
“I want to wish all three captains all the best over the weekend. All the teams are well-balanced but Trinidad can get some momentum if they win on Saturday. That game is important if they win that they can go all the way. Barbados are well rested but like I said the team that plays the better cricket will win...I will be supporting the Red Steel,†he added.
Asked if he would ever consider playing for the Red Steel in the future, Gayle, who won the inaugural CPL in 2013 with the Tallawahs, said: “Tallawahs all the way but you never know what can happen. Teams might change next year so we don't know what the future holds.â€

Good luck to Gayle with is surgery and I hoe he has a speedy recovery. It would be nice to see Gayle in the odi and t20 formats playing for the West Indies against Australia and so I hope he heals in time.
