THE FOURTH staging of the Caribbean Singlewicket Cricket Tournament will take place at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre on July 30.

A total of 12 of the top cricketing all-rounders from the region will be engaged in a battle to determine “the ultimate all-rounder in Caribbean cricket”.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Lendl Simmons is the defending champion, having won in 2014, while Barbados’ Dwayne Smith triumphed the previous year. Simmons also had the distinction of winning the inaugural title in 2009.

Singlewicket Cricket Foundation (SCF) is organising this year’s tournament and they have dubbed it Fireworks Thursday given the stellar lineup of cricket allrounders from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and other territories around the region.

Singlewicket cricket requires each allrounder to bat and bowl two overs to complete a game.

Each allrounder is assisted by a runner and neutral fieldsmen are provided by the organisers. Lendl Simmons scored a thrilling last ball win over Kieron Pollard in the 2014 final played at UWI (University of the West Indies) SPEC (Sports and Physical Education Centre) in St Augustine.

The organisers have moved the Tournament to south Trinidad to be closer to the growing fan base for singlewicket cricket.

Wow! I have never heard about this singlewicket tournament before. I am sure that the allrounders in certain territories have never participated in this competition and so the title of best allrounder in the region must be rephrased to best between Barbados and Trinidad.
