CAPTAIN OF the Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 cricket team, Kirstan Kallicharan, is confident about the squad’s chances, ahead of the West Indies Under-17 Cricket Tournament in Tobago.
Trinidad and Tobago will be meeting Leeward Islands at Louis D’Or Ground on the opening day today while 2014 winners Barbados will be facing the Windward Islands at Canaan, and Guyana will be battling Jamaica at Shaw Park in Scarborough.
Kallicharan, in a telephone interview yesterday, commented, “the guys are excited to play. We are ready for the tournament to start, we couldn’t wait for that game (today).â€
The TT Under-17 skipper admitted, “we have one injured player, Siba Batoosingh, but he’s also getting well. I think, most likely, he will play (today). He had an injury to his finger, with his webbing, but he may be fit for (today), most likely.â€
Former national men’s coach Kelvin Williams will serve as the team’s tactician, while Kerwin John will be manager.
Kallicharan noted that, “we didn’t get much outdoors because of the rain. But we have a good team, we bonded well.â€
He went on to state, “it’s been a great (time). We’ve come out here to do well in this tournament.†The highly-rated right-handed middle order batsman and off-spinner is one of four players on this Under-17 team who have also been selected on the national Under-19 squad, along with Batoosingh, Keagan Simmons and Cephas Cooper.
And Kallicharan acknowledged, “my expectations, from everybody, have been very high.
“That will be a lot on by back but I know I can go out there and do my best and continue to do well. My teammates will help me to continue to do so.â€
