West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has described Shivnarine Chanderpaul?s sacking as ?untidy and distasteful?.
The 40-year-old was controversially dropped from the Test side to face Australia next week, with the selectors and head coach Phil Simmons citing the players ?rapid decline? in form as the reason.
In a release yesterday, WIPA said Chanderpaul?s treatment was disturbing, taking into consideration the many years of service the player has given to West Indies cricket.
?The West Indies Players? Association acknowledges and accepts that the purview of selecting the West Indies cricket team lies solely and independently with the selection panel led by Chairman Clive Lloyd, however, we are very disappointed with the manner in which Mr Chanderpaul was treated,? WIPA president and chief executive Wavell Hinds said.
?WIPA believes the process of omitting Mr Chanderpaul was untidy and distasteful. We will continue to have dialogue with the West Indies Cricket Board with the hope of bringing an amicable solution in the best interests of Shivnarine Chanderpaul and West Indies cricket.?
WIPA underscored Chanderpaul?s illustrious career, pointing out his 164-Test career, 11,867 runs, and excellent average of 51, with 30 hundreds.
?At present, he is our highest ICC-ranked Test batsman and a man who has on numerous occasions held the West Indies batting innings together.?
Australia are set to play two Tests, the first at Windsor Park in Dominica starting next Wednesday, while the second is carded for Sabina Park in Jamaica, bowling off June 11.

A truly great contribution to West Indies cricket made by Chanderpaul, but unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Strangely enough, I was more than convinced that between the South Africa tour and the home series that he would have easily eclipsed Lara's record. For a batsman of his experience, that was more than ample opportunity, and I thought his composure would have helped him achieve that milestone with no fuss. It was not taken. The manner in which he got out was very heartbreaking to watch, a sign that the end was near, very near, and eventually the end came. I cannot blame the selectors for the decision made. As Boyz to Men once said "It's hard to say goodbye to yesterday" It comes like a death in the family. That is what West Indies cricket means to me. I hate to see the greats go, but I know they have to, some day. Bless you son. The stats, and the commitment are there for all to see. You can bow out with dignity. We are all proud of you.
