Batsman Kevin Pietersen missed the start of day four of Surrey's County Championship match against Leicestershire with a calf injury.
The 34-year-old went to hospital for a scan, a day after being told he would not be selected for England.
Pietersen hit a career-best 355 not out in Surrey's first innings, then said he was "misled" by the England hierarchy.
The South African-born player is flying to India on Friday to fulfil his IPL contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He also has a deal in place to play for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League T20 competition in June and July.
Pietersen returned to the Oval at lunch, with Surrey yet to start their second innings.
Pietersen accused the England and Wales Cricket Board of being "deceitful" after director of cricket Andrew Strauss said "massive trust issues" were the reason for the ongoing omission.
Sunrisers play Mumbai Indians on Sunday in the IPL - a game in which Pietersen could figure.
"It is great news that KP will be joining us earlier than planned," Sunrisers coach Tom Moody said. "To add a world-class batsman to our squad at the business end of the tournament is a huge bonus, we look forward to welcoming him to our squad."
