* As far as the Rev is concerned it is more important for Shiv to end his test career with a 50+ test average than being the highest runs scorer by a WI batsman.
* If Shiv wants to play for another year---he is playing with danger----we all saw Mahela Jayawardene's average fall below 50 in his last series.
* The selectors may be doing Shiv a favor if they drop him against Australia----he will not reach 12K in his test career, but his test average will be 50+

The great man will be back. Never count him out!
Remember when they dropped Kanhai in 74, which forced him to announce his retirement?! Ahh, but they needed back in 75!
Well, Shiv not going anywhere...and have no fear, Shiv will drop himself if his average is in danger of going below 50!

* We are all familiar with the phrase
HIGHER STANDARDS.
* Shiv has now dropped to #12 in the ICC batting rankings. That is unacceptable.
* Let's look at the rankings of other WI batsmen:
#12 Chanderpaul
#28 Bravo
#32 Samuels
#36 Brathwaite
#37 Blackwood
#57 Ramdin
www.relianceiccrankings.com/ranking/test/batting/
QUESTION:
* Why should Shiv be allowed to keep playing for the WI when he is surrounded by all that greatness ?
* Look at those rankings again---Shiv at #12---no way he is good enough for this powerful WI team ?

* You are backing Shiv to score 2 tons against #2 ranked Australia ? What are you smoking Mail ? Send some of that "good stuff" to me in New York. ;D
* Listen! May I remind you that we are in 2015 not 2012.
* Two or three years ago I would have agreed with you that Shiv could score 2 hundreds against the Aussies.
* But Shiv shyt his pants against #1 ranked South Africa scoring less than 100 runs in the 3 test series and he again shyt his pants against #5 ranked England scoring less than 100 runs in the 3 test series.
* Shiv would be lucky if he ever plays another test for the West Indies, and if he does, the tentative way he has been batting in his last 6 tests, he would be lucky if he could score another fifty in tests.
* Anyway, like I mentioned in the lead post---Shiv may prove all of us writing him off as being dead wrong.

I say 2 more test for shive. if he fails he will be dropped..no doubt about that.
that would be 8 tests in a row of failure. that cannot be supported by any side at all for a player 40 years of age.
2 more out of respect for his career and his person as a sterling character in the game. but he must score to go on. or he scores, passes Lara and retires in glory.

It looks like the WICB will offer Shiv one more test---his farewell test---and it will likely be in Jamaica.
It's up to Shiv to agree to that farewell test.
Looks like anand was right---Shiv will be dropped for the 1st test.
Knowing how stubborn Shiv is----he likely told the WICB he doesn't want a farewell test---and so he'll be dropped.

* Shiv has been batting scared and tentative in his last 6 tests---3 versus SA and 3 versus England.
* Shiv averaged 18.20 in the 3 tests versus SA and 15.33 in the 3 tests versus England.
* At age 41 it's time for him to prepare for life after cricket. He would be lucky if the WICB grants him 2 more tests versus Australia.
* I BELIEVE IT'S ALL OVER FOR SHIV.
* He has had an outstanding career---time to go work for the Granger administration as a cricket coach.

* Shiv Chanderpaul's career has likely come to an end with him being the 7th highest run scorer in tests. Only Tendulkar, Ponting, Kallis, Dravid, Sangakkara and Lara have scored more test runs than Chanderpaul.
stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/i...results;type=batting
* Shiv will go down in history as a very good batsman who put up great numbers.
* In 164 tests Shiv scored 11,867 runs at an average of 51.37 with 30 hundreds and 66 fifties.
*
THOSE ARE GREAT STATS BY A VERY GOOD BATSMAN.
* It was an absolute joy following Shiv's career over the past 21 years----he exceeded all my expectations. I wish him well in his post cricket life.
