Kingston, Jamaica - West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor, spinner Nikita Miller and wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton have come together to form a cricket charity organisation called the MTW Cricket Foundation.
The entity is geared towards assisting the growth and the development of the sport islandwide, with special emphasis being placed at the high-school level.
"We want to give back to society in the same way society has given to us, and we thought coming together and forming a cricket foundation would be a good thing," said Walton during the foundation's first activity last weekend at Sabina Park.
The occasion was the handing of cricket gear and equipment to his alma mater, Munro College, the first of three high schools who are set to benefit this year.
The others are two unnamed schools from Kingston.
"Munro is the first recipient, but we also plan to do two others before the end, with Nikita and Jerome making those presentations.
"We also plan to hold coaching clinics at these high schools, as time progresses," he added.
The gear, which were handed over, included, among other things, batting pads and gloves, wicketkeeper pads and gloves, helmets, thigh guards, and a kit bag.
They are made by SM PIN PU of India, Walton's kit sponsor.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Walton, who has represented the West Indies in two Tests, five one-days and two Twenty20 internationals, said he was happy with the start of the venture.
He said while in school, his father died, and it was Munro's former chairman, the late Lawrence Sharpe, who took care of him, and ensured he did not stray.
"I've, therefore, seen where people have helped me, and want to do a similar thing by giving back, "said Walton.
"The three of us are also good friends, and are from the same north eastern, St Elizabeth, with Taylor from Aberdeen, Miller from Thornton, and me from Siloah, and believe we have different cricket skill sets that we can impart to youngsters."
The 32-year-old Miller and 30-year-old Taylor are past students of high-school cricket kingpins, St Elizabeth Technical.
