I thought was Gus Logie ....cause I remember Hooper making a chess like gambit for Shiv
gambit noun
A strategic move, often in chess but also in politics/business, where a player sacrifices something up front for future gain.
The noun gambit comes from an Italian word, gambetto, which means “tripping up.â€

Good stuff, Rev.
For comparison Shiv's last 15 innings: 47, 15, 25, 85*, 84*, 101*, 21, 4, 7, 9, 50, 46, 13, 1, 7. By my count that makes a total of 515 runs at an average of 42.92 although if you take out the three scores against Bangladesh his average drops down to 20.42. Shiv sure does love batting against Bangladesh - a career average of 149.50 in 10 matches. His last six scores against Bangladesh: 203*, 1, 150*, 85*, 84*, 101*. A pretty nifty 624 average.
A random stat I found while digging through the data: Shiv is just one of 11 batsman to score 1000+ runs after turning 39.

Lloyd had an average of 50.85 in 8 innings after turning 40. He averaged 48.54 over his last 15 innings.

Records are set and meant to be broken .... and I really don't understand the insularity. I see it as Shiv setting a new record for WI and the 'haters' see it as breaking Lara's record.
Sad .... but I hope he does take the record as it would be a credit to his long standing career......... and here's hoping Cub Tage takes up the mantle from Tiger Shiv...
You go Shiv !!!

* If Shiv(11842) were to score the 112 runs needed, then he "ordinary Shiv" would then sit at the top of the mountain ahead of 3 extraordinary greats:
LIST OF HIGHEST WI TEST SCORERS
11954 Chanderpaul
11953 Lara
8540 Richards
8032 Sobers
stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/i...results;type=batting
* Many Prejudiced West Indians see it as an egregious sin for the Unity Bhai to be perched ahead of the 3 extraordinary West Indians greats.

HERE ARE SHIV'S SCORES IN HIS LAST 4 TESTS AT KENSINGTON OVAL
37 and 12 = 49 runs vs India in 2011
103* and 12 = 115 runs vs Australia in 2012
26 and DNB = 26 runs vs Zimbabwe in 2013
15 and 25 = 40 runs vs New Zealand in 2014
OBSERVATION:
* All of Shiv's scores in his last 4 tests at Kensington have been double figures.
* In 3 of the tests Shiv batted in both innings and scored: 49, 115, 40
* Based on Shiv's recent performance at Kensington it is reasonable to expect Shiv to score a total of 40 runs in his two innings versus England.
* Of course Shiv can stun the cricket world and score a hundred like he did against Australia in 2012.

Phil Simmons judgments needs to be questioned.
West Indies drew a game that they should have lost and lose a game that they should have drawn.
I would not put much weight on his statement that Chanderpaul is great . Remember that Chanderpaul thrived under Gibson and is failing miserably under Simmons

* If Darren Bravo or Kraig Brathwaite or Jermaine Blackwood were to play 163 tests and score 11,842 runs with 30 hundreds and 66 fifties, then you Ramo and your fellow West Indians would deem those players to be great. But East Indian Shiv is judged by an impossible standard by you prejudiced scoundrels.
