North Sound: James Anderson became England’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket when he claimed his 384th victim in the drawn first Test, against the West Indies, in Antigua, on Friday.
The 32-year-old fast bowler surpassed Ian Botham’s haul of 383 wickets when he had Denesh Ramdin caught for 57 by Alastair Cook at first slip in the final session on the last day of his 100th Test.
Jason Holder struck his maiden first-class century to lead West Indies to the draw. Ramdin and Holder shared a resolute seventh-wicket stand of 105 and the hosts did enough to ruin England’s hopes of going 1-0 up in the three-match series.
Holder ended unbeaten on 103 and Kemar Roach was 15 not out as West Indies finished on 350 for seven, 88 runs short of their improbable victory target of 438.
“My immediate emotion was we were back in the game. Great to have my family here as well and taking over from an English legend is a hugely proud moment for me. We were hoping to get the win.â€
