KEVON COOPER produced a “Man of the Match†performance as Queen’s Park defeated Jenexcon Tableland by 21 runs yesterday as the NGC T20 Festival continued at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva.
In their Premiership quarter-final duel, the Parkites amassed 158 runs for six wickets in their allotted 20 overs with Cooper hitting 45, Petrock Nicholas 36 and Javon Searles 35. National pace bowler Daniel St Clair snapped up four wickets for 30 runs.
In reply, Tableland were restricted to 137/6 with Khary Pierre claiming 3/26 with his left-arm spin while Cooper took 2/26 with his medium pace. A pair of Coopers - Akeil (62) and Adrian (27), were the only major contributors with the bat for Tableland. Merry Boys were opposing Esmeralda in the other scheduled quarter-final last night at Couva. On Wednesday, Diamond United booked a spot in the Championship Final — scheduled for April 16, with a six-wicket win over Defence Force. Defence Force made 148/8 in their allotted overs with Earnil Ryan hitting 54 and David Adams 21. Bryan Gayle claimed 2/31 and Clinton Pestano 1/16.
In response, Diamond posted 149/4 with one legitimate delivery remaining, as Nigel Gayasingh led the way with 47 while Dillon Samaroo made 29, Gayle 22 and ‘Man of the Match’ Pestano 20. Sheldon Dougan was the leading wicket-taker for Defence Force with 2/27.
Action continues today with the other Premiership quarter-finals, with Powergen meeting Alescon Comets at 2.30 pm and Calcutta facing Preysal at 7 pm
