If you did not recognise his voice, closed your eyes and heard him say the occasion would be bigger but the lead-up, the way the team trained and the way it went about it would not change from any other game, you might have thought that it was Australia captain Michael Clarke and not New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee who was speaking.
"We (Black Caps) would have no issues with any potential hangover from Tuesday's epic semifinal win against South Africa in Auckland. The guys enjoyed and celebrated the success and we've had to park that and move onto Sunday, and we have," he told the media on Friday before the team trained for its ICC Cricket World Cup final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
"I think that's been a strength of ours, the level-headedness that comes in the team. We don't get ahead of ourselves and we stay in the moment and just worry about the job at hand. The occasion is bigger but I'm sure the lead-up, the way we train, the way we go about it, it doesn't change from any other game," Southee said.
