Sir Ian Botham feels there needs to be a change in mindset and coach if England are ever to start competing in one-day cricket again. The Three Lions crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage, with only a solitary victory over minnows Scotland to show for their efforts.
They capitulated against Bangladesh in a must-win encounter and looked devoid of confidence and ideas throughout the tournament.
England have been criticised for failing to adapt to the modern 50-over game and appear to be set in the past, with Peter Moores put back in charge of the team at the start of last summer.
But, as the rest of the top nations continue to smash the ball to all parts and entertain the crowds, Botham feels it is hight time there was a new approach and a bit of honesty among the staff and players.
“They’ve got to move on I think, join the rest of the world,†he told Sky Sports News. “They need to stop saying ‘we haven’t done much wrong’ or ‘we’re not far off’. They’re miles away at the moment.
“Look at the way the rest play. We’re not at the races. They’re still playing as the game was played 20 years ago. They think if they get to 280, they’ve got a good score. That’s not even par for the course over here. You have to be dynamic.â€
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Sir Ian is spot on.
With England hosting in 2019 there is going to be a desperate attempt to get their ODI game back on track.
