England has proved to be abysmal ever since the last 18 months. The ideal story of a great team who crumbled to become a third rate one. KP, adore him or detest him, has never left his team for nervous breakdown or other foolish excuses (Swann) when the boat was sinking. He certainly has personality problems, but numerous stars are what conventional wisdom calls normal. His come back would certainly help, but find a charismatic captain first, a friendly coach second, and an ECB which does not depend on school ties and politics third. "!

I think Joe Root is the long term captain going forward - of both the ODI and Test team. I'd keep Cook as the Test captain for the time being and give Root the ODI captaincy role. Ideally you would like to start to build the foundations now for the 2019 World Cup.
