TTCB Media Release.
Port of Spain, Trinidad - New care-taker chairman of the Central Zone of the T&T Cricket Board, Manohar Ramsaran, has expressed his happiness with the response of young cricketers to the zone’s recent invitation for screening sessions.
Manohar said organisers of the sessions were very surprised at the large turnout of enthusiastic cricketers who are hopeful of being selected by Central Zone to play in the upcoming BGTT Under-19, Under-17 and Under-15 age-group competitions.
However he said heavy rain prevented the sessions from being undertaken at two of the planned venues: at Gilbert Park in California and at the Caroni Conquerors Ground.
“A lot of young cricketers turned up at all four of our venues on Monday but we were only able to do some work at Monroe Road, Cunupia; and at Presentation College in Chaguanas,†said Ramsaran, a former Chaguanas MP and successful minister of government in both sport and community development.
As a result, Ramsaran said that screening for the young budding cricketers for the BGTT competitions later this month will be staged again on Friday, March 6 at the same venues.
He said qualified coaches and scouts from the T&TCB will be present to have a close look at the emerging talent with a view of shortlisting them for zonal and national selection.
Ramsaran, manager of the successful T&T senior team in the Nagico Super50 regional tournament in January, has been mandated by the T&TCB to revitalise and restructure Central Zone cricket.
He is being assisted by well-known administrator and manager of Central Sports Cricket Club, Richard Ramkissoon and attorney at law Ajay Maharaj along with other experienced officials who have given their support to the initiative.
