The reason being that the Saffies wanted the Irish to build up their net run rate to the detriment of Pakistan and the west indies . Residual apartheid mindset

A Lot : it was not even a difficult catch
5.1
KJ O'Brien to Amla, no run, dropped first ball. This one has luck-of-the-Irish written all over it until Ed Joyce has spilled it.
A length ball, on the pads, Amla whips it, but straight to short midwicket.
Bursts through Joyce's hands, and hits him on the thigh

I have been seriously impressed with the associate teams in this World Cup. The Ireland/UAE match and the Scotland/Afghanistan were two of the best matches so far with both matches coming down to the last over with exciting run chases. I didn't like the decision to reduce the number of teams competing in the 2019 World Cup and this World Cup has done nothing to make me think otherwise. These teams belong here and have shown better fight than a number of the Test playing teams as you mentioned. I am not sure how anyone can argue that reducing the number of teams in the World Cup is good for the global game.

That's not true. As we're only playing with four specialist bowlers, AB has to get the extra ten overs somewhere and he was trying out the options to see who can do the job when the going gets tougher. Once Duminy is fit, hopefully things will be a bit more straightforward. Aside from that, the most important thing is to take care of our own net run rate.

Hashim Amla broke Virat Kohli's record to become the fastest to reach 20 hundreds.
After that drop by Ed Joyce off the bowling of Kevin O'Brien on 10, Amla motored along to his 20th hundred in a mere 108 innings. Kohli had taken 133 innings to get to the landmark. The Brat, five years younger than the 31-year-old Amla, has played 153 ODIs, while the Proteas opener has now played 111 ODIs.
