“It is pretty simple: I have never sang the national anthem when playing for Ireland or England," he said.
"It does not make me any less proud to be an English cricketer.
“I am extremely proud to be in the position that I am in and privileged to be captain of the World Cup side.
“It is a long story. It is a personal thing. It would go on a while but it doesn’t bother me.â€

I would sing a national anthem that is dedicated to the monarch and asking God to save them so they continue to rule over me. The England anthem is one of the worst national anthems in my view because national anthems are supposed to be about the country but the English one is about the royal family.

If it is true that he did not sing the Irish anthem either then what is the problem? Nothing wrong with not wanted to sing a national anthem. Plenty of people dislike nationalism of the flag waving, "Engaland! Engaland! Engaland!" type.
The more important question is what is the point in having a national team if you are going to allow people who have no great historical or personal relationship with said country to play for it. Surely Morgan is simply a mercenary, and is only playing for England because they are a more prestigious cricketing team than Ireland.
