WITH the signature of Martin Guptill secured, Derbyshire elite performance director Graeme Welch is keeping his powder dry before making his next move for overseas signings to boost his 2015 squad.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are still on the county’s list of possibles to take over from Guptill in the second half of the season and Welch is also looking to add an overseas “death bowler†for the NatWest t20 Blast.
New Zealand opening batsman Guptill will start the new campaign at the 3aaa County Ground and stay until early June, making him available for their first six LV County Championship and three t20 fixtures.
That takes the pressure off Derbyshire in a market that Welch admits can be an “absolute nightmare†to try to make deals in, with the busy international calendar and global t20 tournaments limiting the availability of the top players.

I love Chanderpaul. Said it a bunch of times, but one of the greatest and most underrated players of this generation. It’ll be a huge loss for the Windies when he retires.
