Kingston, Jamaica - Jamaica Franchise captain Nikita Miller believes the innings played by Guyana Jaguars, and West Indies one-day discard, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, was the main reason behind their six wickets defeat in the semi-finals of for their WICB NAGICO Insurance Super50 at Queen's Park Oval on Thursday.
Chanderpaul, who has not played one-day cricket for the West Indies since the quarter-finals of the ICC World Cup in 2011, made an undefeated 98 in Guyana's total 189 for four off 48.1 overs.
Guided The Other Batsmen
This was in reply to 188-9 made by the Jamaicans off 50 overs.
"On a given day, someone will come up with a good performance, and Shiv came up with a good performance," said Miller.
"He (Shiv) played an absolute blinder for them. He just batted.
"He first survived a good opening spell from Marquino Mindley and Duval Green, and later on guided the other batsmen."
Forty-year-old Chanderpaul opened the batting for the Jaguars, and faced 142 balls during his more than three hours knock. He also hit six fours, and shared in two influential partnerships that sealed the deal for the Guyanese.
"Bonner and Campbell gave us a decent enough start and got us to over 50," pinpointed Miller.
"But (thereafter) we lost it, in between one or two poor decisions from the umpires, which set us back. Miller, then came in, and tried, and played an absolute blinder, which was the best innings to date for us. However, in the end, it was not enough."
